How to Get Your Fire Back (Without Starting Over)

Here are a few simple mental tweaks that have helped me (and thousands of other runners) get back in the groove when motivation runs low.

Let’s be honest:
Training for a marathon isn’t always exciting.

At first, it’s all butterflies and goal-setting.
By week 4, 5, or 6? Things can start to feel… dull.
You’re tired. The long runs are creeping up. And your inner fire? 🔥 It’s gone! But here’s the truth:
You don’t always need a full reset. Sometimes, you just need a small shift.

1. “I have to run” → “I get to run”

This one’s huge.
Instead of seeing your workout as a chore, flip it:
You get to run. You get to train for a marathon. You get to push your body and see what it can do.

That simple language shift reminds you that this is a privilege, not a punishment.

2. “I need to do it perfectly” → “I just need to show up”

Not every run has to be your best.
You don’t need perfect splits. Or perfect weather. Or perfect energy.
You just need to keep showing up.The power is in the reps, not the perfection.

3. “I’m so behind” → “This is part of my story”

Missed a few workouts? Fell short on mileage? Welcome to the club.Instead of beating yourself up, zoom out: every setback is part of the journey.
It’s the stuff that makes your finish line moment mean more.

4. “This is hard” → “I do hard things”

Yes, it’s hard. But so are you.Every tough run is proof that you’re capable of more than you thought.
And that toughness? You’ll carry it long after marathon day.

5. “I feel slow” → “I’m still moving”

Pace doesn’t define your training.
Progress is still happening, even when it feels slow, awkward, or messy.

Trust that your consistency is working behind the scenes.

Bonus: Dress the Part

You know I’m all about the mindset, but let’s be real:
Sometimes you need to look like a runner who refuses to give up.

That’s exactly why I created this hat. I wear it on the days I want to quit. The “I don’t feel like running” days. The “what am I even doing?” days.🧢

Feeling sluggish mentally can also be a sign your body needs more support.
A little magnesium, collagen, or protein post-run? Total game changer

Final Thoughts

You don’t need a complete life overhaul to get back on track.
Sometimes, all it takes is a tiny mindset shift.

You’ve already committed to something amazing.
Now it’s time to believe that you’re capable of following through.

🔥 Keep showing up. Keep shifting your thoughts.

You’ve got this!
