6 Must-Know Tips Before Running Your First Marathon

Here’s what I wish I knew before I ran my first marathon...

Are you gearing up for your first marathon? Whether you're days away from the big race or just starting your training journey, I’ve got some game-changing tips that will help you feel more prepared, more confident, and ready to crush that finish line!

1. Gradual Carb Loading 🍝

Carb-loading is key, but don’t wait until the night before the race to load up. Start increasing your carb intake about 3-4 days before race day. This will help your body store energy *without* making you feel heavy or bloated the morning of.

2. Prioritize Your Sleep 😴

Race-day jitters are real, and you might find it hard to sleep the night before. That’s okay! Focus on getting solid rest in the week leading up to race day. A consistent sleep routine is a marathoner’s secret weapon.

3. Hydration & Electrolytes💧⚡

It’s not just about drinking water—electrolytes are essential for keeping your muscles firing. Start hydrating with electrolytes several days before the race, and plan to keep replenishing during the run. This can help you avoid cramps and fatigue.

4. The Magic of Beet Juice 🥤

Have you heard of the beet juice trick? Drinking it about an hour before your run can increase oxygen flow and boost endurance. Test it out before race day to ensure it agrees with you and prepare for that added advantage! 💪

5. Multiple Bathroom Trips 🚻

I wish someone had told me to hit the bathroom *more than once* before the race. Nerves, hydration, and excitement can all work against you, so make sure you visit the bathroom two or even three times before you line up at the start!

6. Have a Cramp Plan 🥒

Cramping during a race can be a nightmare. Be prepared! I always keep a shot of pickle juice handy or some salt tablets to prevent cramps or deal with them quickly if they hit. It could be a race saver!

Bonus Tip: Trust Your Training! 💪

You’ve put in the work. The long training runs, the early mornings, the grit—it’s all behind you now. Trust your preparation and remember to enjoy the race experience. You've got this!

Whether it's your first marathon or your 10th, I hope these tips help you have an amazing race day. 🏅

Good luck, and I can't wait to see you cross that finish line!

💥 You’re going to crush it!💥

Happy running!
